There have been many huge steps in advertising over its history. From the first print advertisement following the invention of the Gutenberg press, to the first radio adverts broadcast at the beginning of the twentieth century, these milestones have changed the face of advertising for good.
And advertisers know just how important new innovations in their field is; new advertising methods become successful very quickly because their newness means the advertising content stands out from the crowd but very quickly new forms of advertising media become saturated making it more difficult for advertisers to get their message across.
The latest in a long line of advertising milestones is digital signage which is the use of LCD and other flatscreen TVs for advertising and information purposes. It is fast becoming a major mass media advertising tool because of its ability to reach large audiences with comparatively low costs (compared to other forms of advertisements).
But it has other advantages too:
- Digital signage is unique in that the target audience can not only be seen consuming the advertising message but the advertisements can be altered to make them more relevant to the target audience.
- Digital signage campaigns can be done in-house with simple PC equipment and software without the need to hire advertising agencies.
- The modernity of digital advertising means it stands out more; is more noticeable and attractive to an audience and it can also raise a company’s profile.
Digital signage has been employed in retail, business and the service sector and it continuing to expand all the time. Outdoor digital signage is the latest form of digital advertising which is becoming more and more popular because of the larger audiences outdoor screens can reach compared with indoor systems.
